What Happens When You Get in Touch

Most people who reach a Halifax insurance broker want one of four things. Knowing which one you need gets you to the right desk faster than a general enquiry does.

Requesting a quote

Your current declaration pages are the single most useful thing to send. They set out your limits, deductibles, endorsements and renewal dates in one document, and they save you answering thirty questions from memory. For a new business or a first policy, a short description of the operation, the property or the vehicles is enough to start. Most quotes come back within one to two business days.

Changing a policy you already have

Address changes, adding or removing a vehicle or a driver, replacing a lost pink slip, moving a limit or a deductible, adding a mortgagee or a loss payee. Send changes in writing so there is a record of when they were requested. Anything that materially changes the risk should reach us before it happens rather than after, because that is the point at which coverage can be arranged rather than argued about.

Certificates and documents

Certificates of insurance, confirmations of coverage, additional insured endorsements, wrap-up enrolments and bonding documentation. Contractors usually need these against a deadline, so tell us the deadline and send the exact wording the general contractor or the owner has asked for. Guessing at wording is the most common reason a certificate comes back rejected and the job start slips.

Raising a concern

Start with your broker and ask for it to be escalated within our office if that does not resolve it. A complaint about how a claim was handled belongs with your insurer’s complaints or ombudsman office — the Insurance Bureau of Canada sets out that dispute resolution path in full. Once it is exhausted and you hold a final position letter, the for New Brunswick clients.

Need to Report a Claim?

Claims do not wait for office hours. Every insurer we place business with runs a 24-hour claims line, and calling it directly is the fastest way to get an adjuster assigned and emergency repairs authorised.
Our claims page lists the numbers and walks through what to do first.

Halifax Insurance Broker FAQs

Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Atlantic time. The contact form and info@stanhopesimpson.com reach us at any hour, and messages that arrive overnight or on a weekend are picked up the next business morning. Claims are the exception — those go straight to your insurer’s 24-hour line rather than waiting for us.

Calling (902) 454-8641 during business hours. If you already work with someone here, use their direct line or email, because they have your file open in front of them. The form on this page is the right choice when you are not sure who to ask for, or when what you need is easier to set out in writing than to explain over the phone.

Yes, during business hours. We are at 3845 Joseph Howe Drive, Suite 300, in Halifax, and there is a map further up this page. Call ahead if you want to sit down with a specific Halifax insurance broker, so we can make sure the person who handles your file is in rather than out on an inspection or at a client site.

Your current declaration pages are the single most useful thing to send. They tell us your limits, deductibles, endorsements and renewal dates in one document. For commercial business, add a description of operations, revenue, payroll, a schedule of vehicles or equipment, and any contract wording that dictates the coverage you have to carry. For surety, we will ask for financial statements and work-in-progress.

Call your insurer’s 24-hour claims line directly rather than waiting for our office to open. Every insurer we place business with runs one, and calling it is what gets an adjuster assigned and emergency work authorised at two in the morning. Our claims page lists the numbers and sets out what to do first. Tell us afterwards so we can follow the file with you.

Yes. Send the declaration pages and we will tell you what the policy actually does, where the gaps are, and whether the limits match the exposures. Sometimes the answer is that what you have is fine and the right move is to leave it alone until renewal. We would rather say that than move a policy for the sake of moving it.

Both, along with surety bonding. On the commercial side that runs from general liability and commercial property through to cyber and directors and officers. On the personal side, home, condo, tenant and auto. Many of our clients use us for both, which is usually how the gaps between a business policy and a personal one get found.

Our offices are in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and we run group home and auto programs for the construction associations in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. If you are outside Atlantic Canada, ask — whether we can help depends on the insurer’s licensing as well as ours, and it is a short conversation to find out.
